Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards
FCSK FAQs
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE STRING ENSEMBLES?
We have openings for players of all ages on violin, viola, cello and bass for the string ensembles. Participation is determined by the player’s ability to demonstrate certain skills needed to produce music in an ensemble setting.
HOW DO I JOIN AN ENSEMBLE?
Please contact us either by our website or call us at 740-654-7073 to schedule an informal audition. We will ask you to play a few scales, about two minutes of a prepared piece or etude and maybe have you sight-read something in order to determine where would be the best fit in our ensembles. Once in the ensemble, seating auditions take place in late August.
WHAT IS THE COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?
We do not collect a participation fee. We do however insist you make a commitment to attend our rehearsals and come prepared so we can work on ensemble matters.
DO I NEED TO OWN MY OWN INSTRUMENT?
In general, yes. However, we can direct you to various sources that can meet your needs.
DO I NEED TO TAKE LESSONS WHILE PLAYING IN THE STRING ENSEMBLE?
It is strongly recommended you seek private lessons to improve your general technical and musical abilities. If you already have a teacher, great. If not, we do offer lessons on violin, viola, cello and bass, and keyboards..
WHEN AND WHERE DO THE ENSEMBLES MEET?
We meet in Grace United Church of Christ, Lancaster, Ohio on Monday evenings throughout the year with scheduled breaks between concerts.
HOW MANY CONCERTS DO YOU PERFORM?
The number can vary from year to year but in general we play a fall program (in the past it has been a Halloween program), a Christmas concert, Spring concert, July Festival Fair Days concert and a couple of miscellaneous events.
