Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards

Music Makers:

Ensembles

At Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards we believe the magic of making music is greatly enhanced when one participates in an ensemble learning and performing with others.

We offer four distinct string ensemble experiences based upon the student’s development on their chosen instrument.  All ensembles meet weekly on Monday evenings. Currently we prepare five concerts per season with additional performing opportunities available for small ensemble groups.

All concerts are free and open to the public.  Students are highly encouraged to participate in private lessons with a teacher of their choice throughout their tenure with Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards. At Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards we believe the magic of making music is greatly enhanced when one participates in an ensemble learning and performing with others.

POPSICLE PLAYERS
(BEGINNER LEVEL)

This ensemble is designed for the student with little or no previous experience in music and provides the student just starting out a great introduction to the rudimentary elements of playing together in a group like setting.  Students learn skills through ear training and imitation and some note reading. Emphasis is placed on good playing posture and playing position. The piano is used for chordal type accompaniment which helps students to have an encouraging and rewarding experience.

SUPER STRINGS
(INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)

In the Super Strings ensemble, student emphasis is on note reading and basic ensemble skills as it pertains to performing in a string orchestra.  Basic skills used in ensemble playing are presented and rehearsed such as tone production, articulation, bowing, rhythm, and cross listening.  Proper orchestral etiquette is introduced.

CHAMBER STRINGS
(ADVANCED LEVEL)

Students participating in the Chamber Strings ensemble continue to build their ensemble skills while working with a variety of musical styles from Baroque to Pops selections.  Attention to detail is emphasized as it pertains to the musical score.  Students must demonstrate a level of technical proficiency that will allow them to successfully perform the musical repertoire on an academic and artistic level.

SMALL ENSEMBLES

We are excited to announce the development of our small ensemble program at Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards.  Musicians participating in the Chamber Strings Ensemble group may participate in small chamber music ensembles such as string duos, trios, quartets, or quintets.  Emphasis will be placed on advanced ensemble technique using the classical repertoire.   Students may sign up as a group or individually to be placed in an appropriate group. Coaching sessions will then be arranged on a regular basis throughout the season.  Select prepared ensembles will have the opportunity to represent Fairfield County Strings & Keyboards for upcoming community events throughout the year.

Currently our featured student ensembles

The Harmonics and Glyss are both string quartets. They meet regularly and perform for a variety of social events. The Harmonics has received superior ratings from the Ohio Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Contest. Both ensembles are coached by Lynne Theller-Kitchen.
